Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert: The First Connection
Lambert and Shelton had been acquainted for quite a while, but their connection deepened when they teamed up to deliver a memorable performance of the 1981 country hit, “You’re the Reason God Made Oklahoma,” during the CMT 100 Greatest Duets special in September 2005.
Their on-stage chemistry left a lasting impression on many, with Shelton confessing to experiencing an instant spark unlike anything he had felt before. “I was falling in love with her, right there on stage,” he revealed.
Complications arose as Shelton was still married to his first wife, Kaynette Williams, and Lambert was engaged to country singer Jeff Allen McManus. However, fate had its own plans. Just five months after that performance, Shelton initiated divorce proceedings with Williams, and Lambert called off her engagement. Both denied rumors that their budding relationship was the cause of their respective breakups.
In 2007, Lambert and Shelton decided to go public with their relationship, making their first appearance together at the 2007 CMT Music Awards. Perhaps their unconventional beginning is a testament to the sweetness of a romance destined to endure.
