Can you believe that the famous country singer Loretta Lynn once said she didn’t really like country music? It’s true! In a chat with a well-known interviewer, Charlie Rose, back in August 1997, Lynn spilled the beans on her musical tastes.
During the talk, Rose asked Lynn about her favorite music besides country. Lynn surprised everyone by saying, “I don’t ever listen to country music.” Rose was pretty surprised and wanted to know more. Lynn explained that even though her late husband loved country music, whenever he played it on the radio, she’d tell him to “turn that stuff off.”

Now, this might sound strange because Lynn actually grew up with country music. She loved artists like Kitty Wells and was really close friends with Patsy Cline. Lynn even made a whole album of Cline’s songs after she passed away in 1963. Lynn cared so much about Cline that she named one of her twin daughters “Patsy” in memory of her friend.
Later in her life, Lynn wasn’t happy with how country music was going. She thought it was kind of “dead.” In a talk on Martina McBride’s podcast in 2020, Lynn said she wanted to bring it back to life. She believed all types of music, whether it’s rock or country, should be saved.
