While many artists are becoming more outspoken about their political views, Reba McEntire has always made it clear that her fans won’t hear her talk about politics. Over the years, the country music star has stayed focused on her role as an entertainer rather than getting involved in the often-divisive world of politics.
In a recently resurfaced clip from 2017, Reba sat down with the hosts of The View to explain why she chooses not to bring politics into her concerts. The conversation began when co-host Joy Behar asked how Reba’s fans would react if she suddenly went on a political rant during one of her shows. Reba’s response was simple: “My fans would be shocked.”
The country legend explained that her goal when performing is to provide an escape for her audience. “They’ve worked hard to buy their tickets and come to see me,” Reba said. “They’ve paid for parking, food, and drinks. I’m here to entertain them, not to push my political views on them. It’s just not my job.”
For Reba, her concerts are about giving her fans a break from the stresses of daily life. She believes that by the end of the night, they should leave feeling lighter, with a little “lilt in their step,” as she put it. She wants her music to be a source of joy and relief, not a place for debates on politics.
Behar raised the point that some artists avoid sharing their political views out of concern that doing so might alienate fans or damage their reputation. Reba’s response was clear: “That’s not as important to me as my job of entertaining. It’s not my place to share my political opinions on stage.”
Reba’s commitment to keeping politics out of her career remained strong in 2021 when a fundraising event in Montana mistakenly listed her as one of its attendees. The event was supported by several well-known Republican politicians, including South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem. Reba, however, quickly set the record straight, saying that the invitation had gone out without her knowledge or consent.
“I had no plans to attend the event and had told the organizers that,” Reba stated. “I’ve always said I don’t get involved in politics, and that remains true to this day.”

In response to the confusion, a representative for Governor Noem’s office defended the event, explaining that the standard procedures for confirming and listing event hosts had been followed. Despite the mix-up, Reba remained firm in her stance that she prefers to stay out of political discussions.
While fans may not know exactly where Reba stands on political issues, one thing is clear: She has a deep love for her country. Her patriotism was front and center when she performed the national anthem at Super Bowl LVIII in 2024.
During an interview after her performance, Reba shared how much the moment meant to her. “It’s a very special song for all Americans and people around the world who’ve worked so hard for our freedom and peace,” she said. “It’s not about me. I’m just honored to sing it as a representation of the song and the people it stands for.”
Reba’s performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner” was a stunning tribute to America, showcasing her deep respect for the country and its people. Fans who watched her sing couldn’t help but feel the sincerity in her voice, as she paid tribute to the many who have fought for the freedoms enjoyed by all Americans.
