Inside the Heartfelt Romance of Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood

If there’s one person who’s Trisha Yearwood’s number one fan, it’s her husband, Garth Brooks. And he doesn’t even try to hide it.

On his Facebook series Inside Studio G, Brooks shared just how much he admires his superstar wife.

“When we first started singing together, she told me I had to. After every song, I had to bow to her,” he joked. But then he got serious: “Long before I ever thought it was possible to date the woman, much less marry her, I’m the biggest fan of Trisha Yearwood’s voice you can imagine.”

Brooks isn’t just bowing for fun. “I bow to her for her gift, her talent, and the fact that she’s done it on her own, as a woman in this business,” he explained. And in his eyes, she deserves a place in the Country Music Hall of Fame.

“One of the greatest crimes in country music history right now: Trisha Yearwood is not in the Country Music Hall of Fame yet. That is a crime because I cannot tell you how many people have moved to this town because this woman’s voice drove them here,” Brooks said. “This is the greatest singer we have in country music, arguably, and so I’m a huge, huge fan.”

It’s easy to see why fans adore them—not just for their music, but for the love they share. Years in the spotlight haven’t dimmed their chemistry. They’re clearly still head over heels for each other.

How It All Started

Their story didn’t start with fireworks. Back in 1987, both were just trying to make it in Nashville. They met in songwriter Kent Blazy’s attic studio while recording a demo. (Blazy would go on to write some of Brooks’ biggest hits, including “If Tomorrow Never Comes.”)

Brooks even told Yearwood she could open for him if he ever made it big. She ended up doing exactly that. At the time, neither of them could imagine they’d both become country music legends—or members of the Grand Ole Opry. Though sparks flew, both were in other relationships. Timing wasn’t right. But Brooks always knew something special was there. On The Ellen DeGeneres Show, he admitted that meeting Yearwood felt like meeting his future wife—and it turned out he was right.

Building a Blended Family

Before Yearwood, Brooks was married to his college sweetheart, Sandy Mahl, for 13 years. They had three daughters: Allie Colleen, Taylor Mayne Pearl, and August Anna. Yearwood had also been married twice, to musician Chris Latham and then Bobby Reynolds.

After years of friendship and music collaborations, they were finally free to be together. In 2005, Brooks proposed at Crystal Palace in Bakersfield, California, in front of thousands of fans. Yearwood said “yes,” and they had an intimate wedding at their Oklahoma home with only four family members present.

Making Music—and Memories—Together

Brooks and Yearwood hate being apart. Over the years, they’ve performed at CMA Awards together and even released a Christmas duet album, Christmas Together. Brooks has toured the world and played stadiums packed with tens of thousands of fans, but through it all, Yearwood has remained his top priority. In his 2019 A&E special, Garth Brooks: The Road I’m On, he made that clear.

The couple also cheers each other on beyond music. While Brooks keeps busy with his own career, he’s been Yearwood’s biggest supporter as she pursued her Food Network show, Trisha’s Southern Kitchen. The show premiered in 2012, won a Daytime Emmy in 2013, and became a beloved staple for fans. Recently, Yearwood sold the Nashville home where the show was filmed, marking the start of a new chapter.

Through it all, Brooks and Yearwood show that love, respect, and teamwork can make even two superstars’ lives look simple and happy.
