John Schneider, widely recognized for his iconic role as Bo Duke in the TV series “Dukes of Hazzard,” recently opened up about his personal love life.

At 64, Schneider revealed during an interview on Grace Begins, The Podcast on Wednesday, May 29, that he has entered a new relationship, a year after the death of his wife, Alicia Allain.

He spoke about how his faith supported him through the tough times following his wife’s passing, calling his new relationship a “miracle.” Schneider admitted he “didn’t want it” initially, but his new partner changed his perspective.

“God sent a widower to a widow and a widow to a widower who understands,” he said. “I was ready to give it all up — everything. Then, just when the idea of dating or holding another hand seemed repulsive, I met this one, that crazy Dame over there,” he shared, pointing towards his new partner off-camera.

Describing the new relationship as a lifeline, Schneider confessed he was ready to give up on “everything” before meeting her.

“I was done. And if that hadn’t happened, I wouldn’t be here; there’s not a chance in the world,” he revealed, his voice filled with emotion. “Now I know there’s much more to do because God has a plan, and I’m part of it. I always knew that.”

John Schneider’s late wife, Alicia Allain, had fought breast cancer for several years before passing away.

The couple married “in the eyes of God” in July, following Allain’s diagnosis in May 2019, even though Schneider’s divorce from his ex-wife, Elvira “Elly” Castle, was not finalized.

Although Allain’s cancer went into remission by 2020, a car crash in December 2021 revealed the cancer had returned and spread to her bones. She passed away in February 2023.

In an August 2023 interview with PEOPLE, Schneider candidly shared his struggles, stating he missed “every damn thing” about Alicia “every day.”

John Schneider’s journey through grief has led him to find a renewed sense of purpose in his new relationship. His openness about the challenges he faced after his wife’s passing and his ability to find new love provides hope to others dealing with similar situations.
