Carrie Underwood and her husband, Mike Fisher, have gone through many stages together since the beginning of their relationship.

The American Idol winner and the former NHL player first met in 2008 and married two years later, in 2010. From the start, there was a strong connection between them. At first, Underwood was unsure when a mutual friend suggested introducing her to Fisher. Still, once they met in person, the bond was impossible to ignore.
“I feel like he is the person I was meant to be with,” the singer told PEOPLE in June 2019. “I had dated guys and kind of knew, like, ‘No.’ Nothing was ever really wrong, but nothing was really right either. With him, it was like a good partnership. It was an easy relationship to be in.”
Nearly 15 years into their marriage, Underwood and Fisher are now parents to two sons, Isaiah and Jacob, born in 2015 and 2019.
“I admire Carrie as a mom most,” Fisher told PEOPLE in the same interview. “She is so good with our boys and loves us all so well.”
After retiring from professional hockey, Fisher began traveling with Underwood as she continued her music career, touring and performing at major events. On Jan. 20, 2025, he stood by her side at President Donald Trump’s inauguration, where Underwood performed “America the Beautiful.”
So who is Carrie Underwood’s husband? Here’s a closer look at Mike Fisher and his life with the country music star.

He’s from Canada
Mike Fisher was born and raised in Peterborough, Ontario. He grew up with his parents, Jim and Karen Fisher, along with his three siblings.

In March 2019, Fisher officially became a United States citizen. He shared the moment on Instagram Stories, writing, “Big day I’m officially American,” alongside a photo of himself holding an American flag.
He played in the NHL
Fisher began his professional hockey career at just 19 years old after being drafted by the Ottawa Senators in 1999. He spent more than a decade with the team before being traded to the Nashville Predators in 2011.
In August 2017, Fisher announced his retirement after helping lead the Predators to the Stanley Cup finals, where they lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Not long after, he made a brief return to the ice in February 2018, with full support from his wife.
“Carrie asked me every few days if I was going to do it. She wanted me to do it. And she’s usually right,” Fisher told ESPN. “I believe this team is built to win and has a very good chance. So that’s part of the reason I want to come back.”
The Predators didn’t reach the finals that year, and Fisher officially ended his hockey career after 18 seasons. In July 2023, his achievements were recognized when he was inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame.
“Congratulations, babe! So proud of you!!!” Underwood wrote on X. “I can think of no one more deserving!”
He and Underwood wed in 2010
The couple’s first meeting was arranged by Underwood’s bassist, Mark Childers, who introduced them backstage at one of her concerts in 2008.
“I was like, ‘We’re sticking him in a meet-and-greet because if he’s weird, I don’t want to deal with him,’ ” Underwood shared during an April 2022 appearance on MTV’s Behind the Music podcast.
Luckily, the meeting went better than expected. They quickly connected and later tied the knot on July 10, 2010, at the Ritz-Carlton on Lake Oconee in Georgia.
In 2020, the couple celebrated 10 years of marriage. Underwood marked the occasion by posting a few throwback photos on Instagram.
“These past 10 years have been pretty incredible with you, @mfisher1212 ! Here’s to many many more. I love you and I thank the good Lord that He brought those two kids together!” she wrote.
They share two sons
Underwood and Fisher welcomed their first child, Isaiah Michael Fisher, on Feb. 27, 2015.
“Tiny hands and tiny feet…God has blessed us with an amazing gift! Welcome to the world, sweet angel,” Underwood wrote on Instagram.
After experiencing multiple miscarriages, the couple welcomed their second son, Jacob Bryan Fisher, on Jan. 21, 2019.

“Our hearts are full, our eyes are tired and our lives are forever changed. Life is good…” Underwood shared following his birth.
During their 2020 docuseries Mike and Carrie: God & Country, Fisher described fatherhood as the “greatest thing ever.” He also expressed his hope that Isaiah and Jacob would grow up with a strong faith.
He supports Underwood’s career
Since winning American Idol in 2005, Underwood has built an impressive career, earning eight Grammy Awards and releasing numerous No. 1 hits. Throughout it all, Fisher has remained one of her biggest supporters.
When Underwood was inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame in 2018, Fisher celebrated her achievement with a heartfelt message online.
“God has given you one of the best voices, crazy work ethic and [a] platform you’ve never taken for granted. You’ve remained humble in all the success and never craved the attention or fame one bit,” he wrote. “Love you lots!”
Fisher has also joined Underwood at major industry events, including the 2022 CMT Music Awards. In March 2025, the couple appeared together at Opry 100: A Live Celebration in Nashville, marking their first red carpet appearance in two years.
He co-founded a hunting lifestyle brand
Outside of sports and music, Fisher has also stepped into business. In 2016, he co-founded Catchin’ Deers, a hunting lifestyle brand, alongside his brother Bud and Austin Casselman.
The brand became popular through humorous hunting-themed clothing and funny online videos. One of their most well-known clips features Fisher singing “Before She Bleats,” a playful parody of Underwood’s hit song “Before He Cheats.”
