Every king needs a queen, and for the renowned “King of Country,” George Strait, that queen is none other than his high school sweetheart, Norma. Their journey spans an incredible 52 years, marked by shared joys and sorrows.

George and Norma’s story began in high school, where their teenage romance blossomed into a decision to commit to each other for a lifetime. Opting for a spontaneous elopement, they exchanged vows in Mexico on December 4, 1971, followed by a heartfelt ceremony in their Texan hometown.

George Strait’s military service in Hawaii became the backdrop for his musical awakening, leading to the formation of the band Rambling Country. Upon his honorable discharge in 1975, George and Norma returned to Texas, where he pursued higher education while honing his musical talent.

The pinnacle of George’s musical career arrived in 1981 with the release of his debut major label single, “Unwound,” a turning point that solidified his status in the country music world.

Through the highs and lows of George’s journey, Norma stood as a constant source of support, witnessing the rise of 60 #1 country songs.

Do George & Norma Strait Have Any Children?

In their personal life, George and Norma became parents to two children. Their daughter, Jenifer Lynn Strait, was born in 1972, and their son, George “Bubba” Strait Jr., arrived in 1981.

Tragically, the family faced heartbreak when Jenifer lost her life in a car accident in 1986 at the tender age of 13. While the couple remains private about the tragedy, George briefly opened up about their profound loss in a 2012 interview with PEOPLE.

Bubba, having grown into a rodeo competitor and country songwriter, found a collaborative muse in his father, marking a beautiful continuation of their musical legacy.

Expressing deep gratitude for the enduring partnership with Norma, George emphasized their shared journey through thick and thin. In a 2012 interview, he reflected, “Norma and I are so blessed that we found each other… and were able to do all of this together, experience this life together, to support each other through everything, good times and bad.”

Norma, though preferring a private life, consistently supports George, attending awards shows, concerts, and even making a cameo in his music video for “Código.”

Celebrating their 52nd anniversary in December 2023, the Straits continue to cherish their enduring love. In a poignant moment during his Las Vegas performance on their 50th anniversary, George dedicated “I Cross My Heart” to Norma, encapsulating the essence of their timeless romance.
