Noah Peters, or as folks fondly call him, “The Singing Barber,” took the stage on American Idol last Sunday (Feb. 25), wowing everyone with his rendition of Rascal Flatts’ “I Won’t Let Go.”
Hailing from a charming Tennessee town, Noah earned his claim to fame by crooning to his clients while expertly snipping away at their hair. His journey to the limelight began when he joined TikTok, sharing videos of his solo performances and duets with the people in his chair.
This season, The Singing Barber seized the opportunity to share his musical talent on the American Idol stage.
Recalling the experience, Noah shared:
“[It] used to be just me singing, getting on people’s nerves, but now people come in just to hear me sing at the barbershop. It means a lot to me,” Noah said ahead of his audition. “Ever since I was a child, I have dreamed of getting a golden ticket on American Idol. So getting to bring that back and frame it in my barbershop, it would mean the world to me.”
For his audition, Noah chose to belt out Rascal Flatts’ “I Won’t Let Go.” While the judges were impressed, they wondered if he felt a bit out of place without a barber chair and a client. To everyone’s surprise, the producers brought in a chair, some haircutting tools, and a client—none other than the 2023 American Idol top 3 finalist, Collin Stough.
Noah invited Collin to join him in a heartwarming performance of Chris Stapleton’s “Broken Halos” while Noah worked his magic on the Idol album with a trim.
In the end, judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan all gave a unanimous nod, sending Noah Peters straight through to Hollywood.
Katy shared her thoughts, saying:
“You’ve got some sweetness to your voice. Some soul, some purity. But, it’s definitely going to need a blunt edge here and there,” Katy said, using barbershop terminology to get her point across. “Or some layers. Either way, it’s going to need some chippity-chop.”
Lionel agreed, advising Noah to stay true to his style and assuring him that he’s on the brink of something extraordinary.
