Tim McGraw’s nephew, Timothy Wayne, has just reached a significant milestone in his career by signing his first record deal with Universal Music Group Nashville.

When discussing his record deal, Wayne expressed his excitement: “I’m thrilled to have this opportunity to make and record music with UMG Nashville. This has been a dream of mine, and I am working hard on music that I can’t wait to share with everyone.”

Earlier this year, it was announced that Wayne would be joining his uncle, Tim McGraw, on his Standing Room Only Tour. And that exciting time has now arrived!

On Wednesday, June 19, Tim McGraw shared a heartwarming video on his social media pages of him and his nephew singing Keith Whitley’s 1988 hit “Don’t Close Your Eyes.”

In the video, seemingly the night before his tour debut, Wayne is seen hanging out in a backstage lounge with his uncle. McGraw asks him if he knows the Whitley classic, and Wayne not only shows that he knows the song but also delivers an impressive rendition.

Wayne takes over the chorus, singing:

“Don’t close your eyes /
Let it be me /
Don’t pretend it’s him /
In some fantasy /
Darling, just once let yesterday go /
And you’ll find more love /
Than you’ve ever known /
Just hold me tight /
When you love me tonight /
And don’t close your eyes.”

Then McGraw himself took over the next verse and chorus, before handing the ending lines back to Wayne.

This moment surely pumped Wayne up and got him excited for his upcoming performances. Wayne is one of the opening acts for McGraw’s tour, with shows scheduled as follows:

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – June 20
Baltimore, Maryland – June 21
Raleigh, North Carolina – June 22
Phoenix, Arizona – June 27
Los Angeles, California – June 28
Sacramento, California – June 29

Tim McGraw captioned his recent post: “He may be my nephew…but he’s the real deal!! Just listen to him sing the hell outta this song. Excited to have Timothy Wayne open up this last run of shows!”

Wayne commented on the post, expressing his gratitude and determination: “I’ll give it my all and then some!”

Fans in the comments even joked that Wayne sang the song better than the “I Called Mama” singer himself.

At the end of the video, Wayne says that he loves Keith Whitley before declaring to McGraw, who was beaming with pride, “Clan!” and then specifying, “McGraw clan!”

One thing’s for sure, talent definitely runs in this family!
