Dierks Bentley recently cleared up the buzz around his comment about not sharing a bed with his wife, Cassidy.
On September 2, the country star joined Bobby Bones on an episode of Bobbycast. During their chat, the topic turned to Bentley’s sleep routine when he’s home and not touring.
“When I do get off the road, it’s like the No. 1 priority,” he shared, admitting that he’s the “world’s most horrible sleeper.”
Bentley explained that his sleep habits are so different from his wife’s that they had to come up with a new setup at home.
“We get in bed together, right? I have three pillows that have to be positioned exactly the correct way,” he said. “I’m thinking about the process of getting to fall asleep and all of a sudden, she’ll jerk. I’m like, ‘You’ve got to be kidding me. You’re already out?’”
To make it work, Bentley decided to “separate church and state.” Instead of one big bed, they switched to two platform beds, box springs, and mattresses. Over time, though, it reached the point where the couple sometimes ended up in different rooms.
“Lately, she’s like, because I’m just such an animal, it’s terrible. She’s like, she’s sleeping on the couch now,” he admitted. “She’s like, there’s an extra room we have and she just goes to sleep in there. And even last night, we’re like, we’ve got to get this back on track when I get off the road. We got to get back to the same room.”
After the podcast, fans had plenty of questions. To clear things up, Bentley shared a post on Instagram with a photo of their bedroom setup. The picture showed two twin beds pushed together on one frame, each with its own duvet.
“This is how we do it,” he wrote in the caption. “I like bouncing around in my old single axle, leaf spring Chevy truck, but we prefer ‘independent suspension’ when it comes to sleep.”
He continued, “Turns out your grandparents knew what they were doing, as does most of the current world outside the US today. Just like a good mullet offers business up front, party in the back, this set up allows for both types of activities this room in the house is meant for. If you have this move in you, try it. You can thank me and the $131 dollar amazon beds later.”
Despite their different sleep styles, Bentley said he and Cassidy plan to return to sharing a room full-time by the end of the year.
