Dwight Yoakam and Emily Joyce have shared a special bond for many years. In May 2020, they revealed that they were married. The couple had started dating back in 2010 and had been engaged for several years.

In a statement to PEOPLE, Yoakam’s rep shared, “Dwight Yoakam and Emily Joyce wed in March just before the quarantine in a private ceremony at St. Monica Catholic Church in Santa Monica.” The ceremony took place just before the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns, with less than ten attendees who were all seated six feet apart.

Yoakam marked the occasion by posting two photos on Instagram, showcasing their joy on their wedding day.

Emily Joyce is a talented photographer. Although not much is publicly known about her career, she held an exhibit at The Salon in Los Angeles in 2016. She has also taken several photos of Yoakam, some of which have been shared on social media.

In November 2019, Yoakam posted a heartfelt birthday message to Joyce on Instagram, along with a photo of her with her camera. He wrote, “Happy Birthday Emily!! Thank you for the love and joy you give to my life. I love you for selflessly sharing the space in my life that isn’t always an easy place to be. Love, Dwight.”

A New Chapter as Parents

In August 2020, Yoakam and Joyce welcomed their first child, a son named Dalton Loren. The birth was announced on Instagram, featuring photos of a pregnant Joyce and Yoakam on their way to the hospital. The announcement read, “Like the lyric from the song Waterfall that Dwight wrote for Emily on his 3 Pears album says… Babies get born even in a… Pandemic lock down… With great joy and happiness Dwight & Emily announce the birth this past Sunday of their new baby boy.”

In May 2022, Yoakam shared a sweet video of Dalton dancing to his music in a Mother’s Day post on Instagram.

Private Yet Public

While Yoakam and Joyce kept their relationship largely private, they did make some public appearances together. They were seen at the 2019 GQ Men of the Year After Party, the 67th Annual BMI Country Awards in November 2019, and the 59th Annual Grammy Awards in February 2017.

Delayed Announcement

The couple chose to delay their wedding announcement until May 2020 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Their announcement stated, “This belated announcement was withheld out of respect to so many people affected by and on the front lines of this pandemic.”

Life in the Hollywood Hills

In 2012, Yoakam spoke to PEOPLE about his home in the Hollywood Hills, describing it as a sunny, art-filled Spanish colonial-style house with “a Mediterranean vernacular.” He was deeply involved in its construction, picking out every detail.

It was in this home that he wrote his album, 3 Pears, while Joyce was a part of his life. Yoakam explained, “My artwork kind of oscillates around me when I’m writing songs. There’s a bit of musical frenzy in this record. It’s about having fun and rediscovering love,” adding that he was “very happy” with Joyce.

Their Hollywood Hills home is a stark contrast to Joyce’s roots in Omaha, Nebraska. Similarly, Yoakam was born in Kentucky and grew up in Ohio.

Dwight Yoakam and Emily Joyce have built a life filled with love, creativity, and happiness, navigating their journey together with grace and joy.
