Allison Cornell, the accomplished fiddle player, background vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist who spent years contributing her immense talents to Shania Twain’s performances, has passed away at the age of 61 after bravely battling cancer.

Shania Twain shared the heartbreaking news on her social media on Wednesday (Feb. 21), expressing her deep sorrow and paying tribute to Cornell’s remarkable artistry and character:

“Allison Cornell was such a talented and wonderful person. It was a privilege, as an artist, to have her on stage with me through a lot of my touring career. Feeling very sad to hear of Allison’s lost battle with cancer, her memory will live on but sadly another beautiful human has gone too soon from this world. Rest in Peace.”

According to her artist management website, JaggerEdge, Cornell’s impressive resume she included a Master’s degree from Julliard. She was recognized for her versatile skills, providing accompaniment on keyboard, viola, violin, and guitar and lending her background vocals to various artists. Besides her notable tenure with Shania Twain, Cornell toured with renowned musicians such as Cyndi Lauper, Pat Benatar, Paula Cole, and more.

While the exact duration of Allison’s membership in Shania Twain’s band remains unclear, a memorable clip from a 1998 television special showcases Twain and Cornell’s camaraderie backstage during rehearsals.

The televised concert special, filmed at Texas Stadium in Dallas, offered a two-hour glimpse into the concert and behind-the-scenes moments of Twain and her band. In one endearing clip, Allison and Shania sneak into the Cowboys’ locker room, playfully trying on helmets and football gear. Shania, in a Troy Aikman jersey, asks Allison to crop it with scissors, adding a touch of humor to their behind-the-scenes adventures.
