Carrie Underwood, who has been nominated for CMA’s Entertainer of the Year six times, didn’t receive a nomination this year. The 2024 CMA Awards nominees were revealed on Monday, September 9, with Morgan Wallen leading the pack with seven nominations. Following close behind are Chris Stapleton and Cody Johnson, each earning five nods. Post Malone and the current CMA Entertainer of the Year, Lainey Wilson, also secured four nominations apiece.
Lainey Wilson is once again up for Entertainer of the Year, competing against Luke Combs, Chris Stapleton, Morgan Wallen, and Jelly Roll. One of the more notable surprises this year is the absence of Carrie Underwood from the Entertainer of the Year category, marking the first time since 2018 that she hasn’t been nominated. Underwood, who received nominations in this category every year from 2019 to 2023, has a total of six nominations, the first of which came in 2016.

Despite being nominated six times, Underwood has yet to win the CMA’s Entertainer of the Year award. This has often been a surprise to her fans, especially considering her status as one of the biggest names in country music. Until Lainey Wilson’s win in 2023, no female artist had taken home the trophy since Taylor Swift in 2011. Underwood’s contributions to country music have been immense, but the elusive Entertainer of the Year award remains out of reach.
In addition to her nominations, Underwood co-hosted the CMA Awards for 12 years, from 2008 to 2019. While she stepped down from hosting, she continued to be a presence at the event, though she skipped attending in 2023. What makes her absence from this year’s nominations even more surprising is her active year, which included performances in her Las Vegas Reflection residency, multiple Grand Ole Opry appearances, participating in the Toby Keith: American Icon tribute, and performing the Sunday Night Football opener for the 12th consecutive season. She also released a hit duet with Papa Roach, adding to her already impressive year.
Looking ahead, Underwood has exciting plans for 2025. She will return to American Idol as a judge, a full-circle moment for the singer who won the competition in 2005. Along with this, she will continue her popular Reflection residency in Las Vegas into 2025, as detailed on her website. Though Underwood didn’t receive a nomination for Entertainer of the Year this time, it wouldn’t be surprising to see her name back in the mix next year.
