George Strait and Miranda Lambert are set to share a place in the Texas Songwriters Hall of Fame.
The Texas Heritage Songwriters Association recently revealed the four artists who will be inducted in 2026: George Strait, Miranda Lambert, Don Cook, and Keith Gattis. The Hall of Fame celebrates Texas songwriters who have helped shape the state’s unique music and culture.
Both Strait and Lambert perfectly fit that description. Miranda Lambert grew up in Lindale, Texas, and gained fame after finishing third on Nashville Star in 2003. She has written some of her biggest hits, including “Over You,” “Tin Man,” “Bluebird,” “White Liar,” and “Heart Like Mine.”
George Strait, known as “The King of Country,” grew up in Pearsall, Texas. He holds the record for the most #1 songs in country music history. While many of his biggest hits were written by others, he’s also written meaningful songs such as “I Believe,” “The Weight of the Badge,” “The Little Things,” and “The Book.”
Don Cook, born in Carrizo Springs, Texas, has written songs for stars like Barbara Mandrell, Blake Shelton, Clay Walker, George Jones, and Kelly Clarkson. Brooks & Dunn recorded several of his tracks, including “Brand New Man,” “Lost and Found,” and “Only in America.”
The late Keith Gattis, from Georgetown, Texas, worked with big names like Kenny Chesney (“El Cerrito Place”), George Jones (“Real Deal”), and even collaborated with Strait (“I Got a Car”) and Lambert (“I Just Really Miss You”).
The official induction ceremony for Strait, Lambert, Cook, and Gattis will take place on February 21, 2026, at ACL Live in Austin.
George Strait And Miranda Lambert Raise Millions For Texas Flood Relief
Recently, both George Strait and Miranda Lambert have also been helping Texans affected by severe flooding in the Hill Country, which caused at least 135 deaths in early July.
Strait held a benefit concert on July 27 in Boerne, Texas, raising $6.25 million for relief efforts. Lambert teamed up with fellow Texan Parker McCollum for the Band Together Texas benefit show on August 17 at Austin’s Moody Center. The concert featured Cody Johnson, Ronnie Dunn, Lukas Nelson, and even a surprise appearance from Jason Aldean. The event raised $8.5 million in total and was livestreamed online.
It’s inspiring to see George Strait and Miranda Lambert using their talent and influence to give back to their home state in such a meaningful way.
