Bindi Irwin is sharing her journey of recovery after undergoing two major surgeries to help manage her endometriosis, a condition she has battled for over a decade.

On Wednesday, August 13, the 27-year-old posted a selfie on Instagram along with a detailed caption explaining what she has been going through.
Over the past few months, Irwin has faced several health challenges. Earlier this year, she was rushed to the hospital for her appendix, which caused her to miss the annual gala honoring her late father, Steve Irwin.
In addition to having her appendix removed, she underwent surgery to remove 51 endometriosis lesions and a chocolate cyst. Irwin, who is a mom to her four-year-old daughter, added that her “hernia from giving birth that was unzipping” was also “taken care of.”

The environmental conservationist first went public with her endometriosis diagnosis in March 2023 and revealed that she had struggled with it for more than a decade. According to the Mayo Clinic, endometriosis is a painful disease where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus.
After dealing with long-term health issues and severe pain, Irwin says she is finally feeling better following her most recent surgeries.
“I can FINALLY say that I’m feeling better,” she wrote. “Genuinely healing. I can function in everyday life without wanting to throw up or pass out from the pain. Slowly, slowly gaining my strength back. I cannot express the gravity of my emotions as I am beginning to recognise myself again.”
Because the topic is so personal to her, Irwin hopes her experiences can help “take away the stigma of talking about women’s health.”
“I felt utterly ashamed as a teenager and young adult being told that my pain was just part of being a woman,” she continued. “I felt lesser. I felt hurt. I felt weak. That is not ok. Young girls and women shouldn’t feel alone with pain in the driver’s seat of their lives.”
Many fans left messages on Irwin’s post, thanking her for using her platform to bring attention to endometriosis. A few of the comments read:
- “I could not think of a better ambassador and role model for women going through this disease than you. So proud of you and excited for your new beginning.”
- “Thank you Bindi for your strength and kindness in sharing your personal journey and thus allowing a light to shine on women’s health! We LOVE that you are healing, and your bravery is encouraging others to speak out and seek answers.”
- “Thank you for all that you do to advocate for the endometriosis community!! You have brought so much awareness to this disease.”
Through her honesty, Bindi Irwin is helping to shed light on an often-overlooked condition and offering support to women who may be going through similar struggles.
